Sending an Encrypted Email with Virtru on Your Mobile Device 

Virtru users have the ability to send encrypted emails through the Virtru mobile app.
(See below to learn how install and activate Virtru on iOS and Android devices.)

Sending on an iOS Device

1. Access the Virtru mobile app.

2. Select the compose button in the bottom right hand corner of your phone screen. Once selected, this button will open the draft page.

3. Make sure that Virtru encryption is toggled on by triggering toggle at the top of the draft screen. Once the toggle is pressed and encryption is enabled, the banner at the top will change from orange to blue.

a. If the toggle is already to the right hand side, or the banner is already blue, Virtru encryption is already enabled.

b. At this point users will also have the ability to enable other Virtru features such as setting an expiration date or disabling forwarding. To enable these features just press the blue “Security Settings” text underneath the Virtru toggle.

4. Enter recipient's email address. Once this information is entered the “Send” button in the top right of the screen will be available.

5. Press send - and the email will be sent using Virtru protection.


Sending on an Android Device

1. Access the Virtru mobile app.

2. Select the compose button along the top banner of the Virtru app. Once selected, this button will open the draft page.

3. Make sure that Virtru encryption is toggled on by touching where the text reads “Touch to enable Virtru protection.”

a. On the security settings pop up, toggle the “Secure Email” toggle to the right.

b. At this point senders can enable additional Virtru features such as Expiration or Disable Forwarding.

c. Once desired features are set, select “Done.”

d. When user returns to the draft page, the banner and Virtru logo will be blue. This ensures the user that Virtru protections are on.

4. Enter recipient information and body of email message.

5. Press send button (looks like a right facing arrow) at the top right of the draft page - and the email will be sent using Virtru protection.


Installing and Activating Virtru on iOS Devices

Installation of the Virtru email app can be accessed through the App Store on your iPhone device.

1. Select the “App Store” icon within your device.

2. Click the “Search” icon on the bottom of the screen.

3. Tap the search bar at the top of the page, type in “Virtru”, and then click “Search”.

4. Tap on the app titled “Virtru Corporation”.

5. After you have reviewed the details of the app, you can begin downloading by selecting “Get” and following app installation procedures.

6. Once the app has finished installing, you can immediately access it by clicking “Open.”

7. The app will now be displayed on your device and can easily be accessed by tapping on the Virtru icon.

8. To activate Virtru, click on the Virtru icon, on your device. First, Virtru will ask you which email service you use. Choose your service.

9. Virtru will then prompt you to log into your email account. Select “Gmail” and enter your email address and password.

10. When you are redirected to the Okta sign in page, enter in your WORK email address and password. Use the credentials that you use to login to your COV computer. After your credentials are entered, click “Sign in.”

11. Once your credentials have been verified, you will be directed to another Okta page where you will need to answer your security question. Insert your answer and click “Verify.”

12. Once you’ve selected “Activate” Virtru will verify your account. Once verified, Virtru will activate and take you to your inbox.

And that’s it. You’re all set to start sending and receiving secure messages on your iOS mobile device.

Installing and Activating Virtru on Android Devices

The Virtru app can easily be installed from the Play Store.

1. Select on the “Play Store” app within your device.

2. Within the app, tap the “Search” button (the magnifying glass icon at the top right of the screen).

3. Type “Virtru” in the search bar and then click the “Search” button for your device.

4. Select the app titled “Virtru: Simple Email Privacy.”

5. Within this page is displayed detailed information about the Virtru app. When you are ready to proceed, tap “Install."

6. A window will pop up, explaining what the Virtru app will have access to. If you would like to continue, tap “Accept.”

7. Once the app has finished installing, you can access the app immediately by tapping “Open.”

8. The app will now be displayed on your device and can be easily accessed by clicking the Virtru icon.

9. To activate Virtru, click on the Virtru icon on your device. First, Virtru will ask you which email service you use. Choose your service.

10. Virtru will then prompt you to log into your email account. Select “Gmail” and enter your email address and password.

11. When you are redirected to the Okta sign in page, enter in your WORK email address and password. Use the credentials that you use to login to your COV computer. After your credentials are entered, click “Sign in.”
